1 DAY UGANDA’S WHITE RHINOS.
This 1 day Uganda rhino tracking tour will take you at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary which is the only home to the white rhinoceros in Uganda located in Nakasongola approximately 164 kilometers by road north of Kampala. This Rhino sanctuary was established in 2005 to re-introduce the southern white rhinos in the wild making it possible to observe these endangered species in their natural habitat. Ziwa rhino sanctuary started with a total of 6 rhinos of which 4 were bought from Solio Ranch in Kenya and the 2 being donated from Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida in the United States. Rhino population at Ziwa rhino sanctuary has gradually increased to 52 rhinoceros as of November 2024. You will therefore have an opportunity to trek through the sanctuary’s savannah grasslands on foot while looking for these endangered animals after which an hour will be allowed close to the rhinos having encountered them in their natural setting.
Detailed itinerary.
Wake up to a hefty breakfast very early in the morning and be ready to be picked up from your hotel or any place of residence by your driver guide. The drive lasts for about 3 hours to the sanctuary arriving to be taken through a briefing of what is expected of you during rhino tracking as well as what to expect. After the briefing you will get back into your vehicle to be driven just close to the rhinos where you will get out and trek through the savannas on foot while viewing other wildlife species such as bushbucks, zebras, warthogs and birds like the piac piac, African grey hornbill, marabou stork, Nubian woodpecker, pallid harrier, red-headed malimbe and many more. Having encountered the rhinos, an hour will be allowed a few meters away from them as you closely observe their routine lifestyle, social interactions, feeding behaviors and many more not forgetting to capture enough videos, and pictures. After enjoying your ample time with the rhinos, you will get back into your vehicle and drive out of Ziwa to a restaurant for your lunch before proceeding to Kampala where you will be dropped off to your hotel marking the end of your day’s rhino tracking.
